Preserving California's
Golden Legacy

The Native Sons of the Golden West has been the guardian of California's history and heritage since the era of the Gold Rush — honoring the pioneers whose spirit built the Golden State.

Rooted in
California's Founding Spirit

The Native Sons of the Golden West (NSGW) is a fraternal organization dedicated to the preservation of California's rich history and the promotion of civic pride. Founded on July 11, 1875, by General A. M. Winn, the organization serves as a tribute to the pioneers of the 1849 Gold Rush.

Through a network of local chapters known as "Parlors," the NSGW fosters friendship, loyalty, and charity — while working tirelessly to ensure that California's formative stories are never forgotten. From restoring historic sites to funding scholarships, the NSGW continues to honor the indomitable spirit that built the Golden State.

California Historical Heritage

Born From the Spirit of '49

On July 11, 1875, General A. M. Winn gathered a group of California's native-born sons with a singular vision: that the stories of the Gold Rush pioneers — their courage, ingenuity, and indomitable spirit — must never be forgotten amid the rapid growth transforming the state.

"The indomitable spirit of those who lived through the era of early California statehood belongs to all of us."

Today, more than 150 years later, the NSGW continues that mission through a statewide network of Parlors, each serving as a local guardian of California's irreplaceable heritage.
